As you climb life and become increasingly popular and successful resist the urge to be prideful. Approach every opportunity as it truly is; a gift from God. Surround yourself with people that love you. Love does not always mean you hear what you want to. Make sure there are at least two people in your life that you can go to, to hear brutal honesty. “Yes men” will have you looking like a complete fool. They praise you build you up, and when you fall they disappear.
They will say I have tried to tell him, behind your back. They will call each other after hanging out with you, to laugh about all the problems you have. Real friends/family have uncomfortable conversations with you. Real friends see your pain, they ask you questions about why you do the things you do. Out of love they encourage you to become a better man. They do not encourage you to do things that hurt your family, they tell you about relationships that are hurting you. They check on you. Love yourself, protect your heart. Do not allow others to bring their problems into your life.
Proverbs 19:8 To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.
